Functional Strength Training
Movement For Our Body & Mind
Enhance your daily life and ensure your body stays strong for your lifetime. Strength training plays an important role in gaining and maintaining muscle mass and bone density so that we can maximally function while doing every day movements like walking, sitting, bending over, pushing, pulling, and jumping! Building a strong body from the inside out will prove to have lasting physical impacts, but can also bolster our confidence, improve our stress responses, and support creating a strong mindset. Join me in class to see and FEEL the results for yourself!
Each class is programmed to work your entire body, focusing on simple movements that work all of our major muscle groups. When I say functional fitness, I mean practicing squatting, lunging, hinging, pushing and pulling, so that in our daily lives we can continue to sit, stand, bend over, reach down, open doors, pick things up etc etc etc... all of our normal daily movements.
I encourage you to add weight (dumbbells) to these exercises to increase your strength and gain muscle, so you can build a strong and stable body and age well!
The class is 45 solid minutes of work. I know that might seem long, but time truly flies by while we are having fun (suffering) together! There are no repeats of any movements - we move along 1 minute at a time with 45 seconds of work and 15 seconds of rest in between. I will demonstrate all movements, emphasizing form and tempo, and constantly reminding you that quality movements are better than quantity. Our goal in this class is to build strength, but you will also gain some cardio endurance as we keep our heart rate up for the majority of class.
I know that it's not easy to do something new or something that feels uncomfortable. The most common barrier (besides time) that I hear often, is the anxiety of working out in front of people. We all understand and most likely have felt the same way. The women who have joined in are all lovely, each one of them unique and different but as a group, welcoming, kind, and in the studio for the same reason - to work on themselves and build a healthy body and mind. We are a community eager to support and encourage in any way that works for you. Join in. We can't wait to meet you!
